Hollywood Beach Golf Resort Featured as Florida Historic Golf Trail Course of the Month

TALLAHASSEE– Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced today that the Hollywood Beach Golf Resort, located in the City of Hollywood in Broward County, has been chosen as the featured course on the Florida Historic Golf Trail for the month of February.

“We are pleased to feature the Hollywood Beach Golf Resort as a partner on the Florida Historic Golf Trail,” said Secretary Detzner. “This golf course has been an integral part of this city’s scenic beauty, and a local landmark for over 90 years.”

Wally Nelson and noted golf course builder Charles Olsen were among the many individuals responsible for the early design of the Hollywood Beach golf course. Olsen took charge of the construction of the golf course, located on former agriculture fields, introduced some new features and added around 30 acres to the original tract. The first nine holes were completed and in play by the 1922, winter season. In the fall of 1922, Wally‘s older brother Lee Nelson, the professional in charge of the course, was spending most of his time on the course directing some of the finishing work and incorporating some late ideas into the final design. In early 1924, Lee and his younger brother Chic Nelson, who served as the assistant golf professional, organized the formal opening of the 18-hole golf course and the hotel.

Today, the 18-hole, par-70, golf course features four sets of tees playing from 4,900 to 6,300 yards. The picturesque course provides players with an experience reminiscent of old Florida that allows players to focus on their golf game and leave day-to-day distractions behind.

“The Hollywood Beach Golf Resort is honored to be selected as the Florida Historic Golf Trail’s featured course for February 2017,” said Josh McCumber, Director of Golf at Hollywood Beach Golf Resort. “The golf course at Hollywood Beach Golf combines the best of old and new, where Old Florida meets the 21st century.”

Grip and Posture, Critical To Play Great Golf

People will ask all of the time what can I work on to improve my golf game? Fundamentals are the benchmark of great players. Jack Nicklaus worked tirelessly when at home practicing to make sure his setup, grip and posture were in his ideal positions. I have included two images that show correct posture and another that shows how to put your left hand on the club correctly. If you would like help with these things come see us for a lesson. Enjoy the walk!

What Is Happening to Today’s Golfers?

Jason Day doesn’t want to be walking around with a cane when he is 40.  Golf has always been known to be game you could play for a lifetime.  With today’s modern golfer though and all the emphasis on fitness and strength and swinging hard to carry the ball 300 yards, more guys are getting injured and shortening their careers.  Below is an article written in Golf Digest.  Enjoy!

Jason Day to Tiger Woods: ‘At 40, I don’t want to be walking around with a cane’

JOLLA, Calif. — Long is good in golf, but longevity is better, which was a topic of conversation recently between Jason Day and Tiger Woods.

Day, No. 1 in the World Ranking, is attempting to find a way to retain the skills that carried him to No. 1, among them the ability to launch the ball miles, without sacrificing his health.

“I was talking to Tiger about this the other day,” Day said at Torrey Pines Golf Course here on Tuesday. “I said I want to win as much and I want to be successful and all that stuff, but at 40, I don’t want to be walking around with a cane.

“There’s nothing like having your health and being able to wake up in the morning and just jump up and not even have a care in the world that your body’s injured.”

Day, who is making his second start of the year in the Farmers Insurance Open this week, is concerned about his back, which caused him to withdraw from the Tour Championship last September and shut his season down until the SBS Tournament of Champions earlier this month.

PRESS RELEASE

Northgreen Country Club Rocky Mount, NC …Become a member for only $49/year…membership drive will end without notice.

At Northgreen Country Club, we have decided to embark on an exciting new program to reach out to the golfers in our area.  We recently achieved an important milestone, our 43rd Year Anniversary, and we want to invite golfers in our area to celebrate with us as we look forward to the next forty-three years and beyond.

It is important to note that this new program is far different from anything we have offered in the past.  Golfers can purchase a three (3)-year membership to the course for as little as $49/year (plus a ten dollar per year admin fee) valid Monday to Sunday. This Anniversary Membership is not valid for Club Outings, Leagues, Member Events, Club Tournaments or Holidays.

It is our desire to connect with local players, and get to know them better.  We are also sensitive to the needs of individuals and families during this challenging economy, and we want to be proactive in delivering an affordable golfing choice.  We hope this will give golfers a way to enjoy the game they love without adding additional financial strain on the family.  We hope that families will choose to play more golf together, as a way to spend quality time and build lasting memories.

In fact, we designed this membership specifically with family budgets in mind.  If golfers in our area can play as little as two (2) rounds of golf per year, then they can enjoy substantial savings by joining Northgreen Country Club today.  However, our program is only available for a short period of time, as we will accept only a limited number of additional memberships at these special anniversary prices.

CALL US TODAY at (252) 446-7224 to secure your membership at once.

No catch, No gimmick, No green Fees, – Just Great Golf!

Sincerely,

Josh McCumber and Randy Davis
